The firm is admitted to practice in the states of Oregon, Washington and New York.

Approach

As advocates for the nonprofit sector, we actively participate in projects and organizations whose pronouncements and policies directly affect the auditing, accounting and financial reporting practices of nonprofit organizations, including the development of accounting standards for the nonprofit industry by the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Community Commitment

Our firm embraces the idea that we have a responsibility to give back to the community that gives so much to us. The idea of giving back is an essential component of our firm and allows our accountants and staff to work with the community as partners, family and friends.

Culture

To our clients, we promise:

  • A smart, diverse, engaged and passionate team of experienced professionals dedicated to helping you achieve your goals.

  • Clear identification of your organization’s benchmarks for success, and creative and strategic thinking to help you meet your business objectives.

  • A single integrated team working with a service plan that is based on a strict adherence to ethical, professional and technical standards of the highest order, and yet flexible and helpful at its core.

  • Use of the most advanced methodologies and technologies.

  • A deep-rooted commitment to total client service.

  • Enthusiasm and devotion to your business.

Industry Affiliations

Our firm is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, as are individual members of the firm’s management team. The firm has also been granted membership in the following special interest centers of the AICPA:

  • The Not-for-Profit Section — which provides resources to support those who work with and for nonprofit organizations;

  • The Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center — A voluntary membership center for firms that audit employee benefit plans to help CPAs meet the challenges of performing quality audits in this unique and complex area; and

  • The Governmental Audit Quality Center — A section of the AICPA that promotes the importance of quality governmental audits (including Single Audits).

Why Us?

Gary McGee & Co. is the region’s premier nonprofit accounting firm, and one of only a few firms in the country that focuses its practice exclusively on the tax-exempt field. As a result, our partners, managers, and professional staff members have more experience working with nonprofit organizations than any other firm.

  • Client-centric services. We’re organized around each client relationship. Client needs, expectations and strategy provide the context for every project we carry out together. Whatever their size, wherever our clients need us, we’re set up to deliver.

  • Full dedication to the nonprofit field. Our managers and staff are fully devoted to the service of tax-exempt institutions, undistracted by the knowledge base required to serve other industries and fields.

  • Hands-on, senior-level involvement. Maybe it just goes with the territory of actually working in a field you enjoy, but we generally provide more direct, senior-level involvement in each engagement than other firms. Because our staff turnover is very low, we also provide a greater degree of continuity in engagement staffing than is typical for other firms.

  • Commitment. We provide fair and visible pricing for all of our services, and we always meet our promised deadlines. We listen. We know our clients. And because we enjoy what we do, we find ourselves giving a lot more than we promised. Our commitment to the service of our clients is a fundamental tenet of our culture and, we believe, the primary reason we have succeeded in a highly competitive environment.

  • Sophisticated, thoughtful advice. Our vision of providing responsive, creative, and practical accounting and advisory services for nonprofits results in clients who view us not only as effective advocates for their missions (and, as you would expect, excellent technicians), but also as trusted advisors.
